Cayman Islands Learner Gains Childcare Award

For the past two years Neila Jones, manager of the Cayman Brac Daycare Centre, has been studying for a National Vocational Award in Children’s Care Learning and Development at level 3.

Assessor Gemma Eaton said “Neila was a model student. She went through all the online lessons, activities, videos and reading texts, and showed through her assessments that she met the criteria for the award.”

The award was presented at a ceremony attended by (as photographed above) Hon. Juliana O'Connor- Connolly. J.P. Deputy Premier of the Cayman Islands, Sally Eaton, Educational Director of The Childcare Company, Kate Marnoch Head of Early Childhood Services in the Cayman Islands, Ms. Tammy Banks-DaCosta, Learning Community Leader and Mr. Ernie Scott District Commissioner for Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.

Ms Kate Marnoch had arranged the training for Ms Jones which was to trial this method of training for childcare workers in Cayman. ”This pilot project has been a tremendous success and we now hope to open it up to others on the Islands who wish to access good quality training. The Childcare Company were very efficient in delivering the training.”


Leading the Way to the New Diploma

The Childcare Company and LASER Learning Ltd. are delighted to announce their involvement in the development of the Training Resource Pack for the new Children and Young People’s Workforce Diploma, which will supercede the current NVQ qualification structure from September 2010.

Education Director Sally Eaton, Information Manager Lisa Sutlieff and Operations Manager Tracy Elsom have been working closely with the qualification’s textbook publishers Heinemann and have written a wealth of resources, including paper based activities, schemes of work, video tutorials and multimedia, to accompany the textbook and provide rich supporting materials for tutors delivering the new qualification. The team make up three of the four authors working on the Training Resources Pack.

Sally Eaton commented:
“The project has been a great opportunity to provide input into the delivery of the qualification nationwide, and we are so excited to be working with such renowned publishers to develop the resource. The pack concentrates a huge wealth of experience into extremely high quality resources and we also bring all the knowledge our company has gained from being leaders in the field of online childcare training.”

The new Training Resource Pack will be available in July this year from Amazon and Waterstones.
